Big Mama is a traditional African American name for “your grandmothers house” that masterfully blends the combination of love, laughter, lessons and law. Big Mama's House creates affordable independent shared housing within the community. Our mission is to provide a unique experience where we build character, encourage confidence and create success among people who were left behind to fail.
Traditionally, Big Mama’s House was the center point for togetherness, love and family. Our mission is to build family-like environments among those who come from different walks of life, but are working towards the same common goals.
It was known that when you went to Big Mama’s House, she would encourage you to be a better person and ignited a need to go to school or work.
Our mission is to work through organizations to provide each person with the resources they need to go to school, learn a trade/ skill or help them establish a career in the work field. In return, this will help build strong character and confidence within our residents.
Big Mama would often open her home to the community that she lived in. You were guaranteed a place to stay to get on your feet, some good food, and a good word of spiritual encouragement.
By providing these services, she helped bring the community together. As we open the doors to our residents, we too offer our home to the community. Big Mama’s House is a one-stop shop for support. By helping our residence become self-reliant, self-sufficient and self sustaining, we build strong characters with confidence. Therefore, as they learn to become responsible and independent, the community will grow stronger.
